velokhaya

Velokhaya connects youth to healthy and successful futures. Our state-of-the-art facility which comprises a clubhouse with gym, computer lab, workshop and library, a separate kitchen and dininghall, mentorship hub and bmx track offers a safe haven with various programmes. Our programme offering includes: cycling, mentorship, tutoring and post-school opportunities.

CYCLING PROGRAMME

Our cycling programming incorporates nutrition education, vegetable garden, running club, after school meals and gym training.

All new members learn the rules of the road, and have to complete the compulsory beginners eight-week training before any on-the-bike training starts.

Members can either join the mass participation road cycling group or the BMX group. Road cyclists who can participate in the elite category at road races are advanced to our elite road programme, administered by exinity cycling.

MENTORING PROGRAMME

Volunteer mentors are paired with Velokhaya members through our partner, Infinite Family as well as with various board members.

Each member is expected to check in regularly for the buddy sessions hosted in the Mentorship Hub and all conducted virtually, overseen by a mentorship programme manager.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

All school-going members have to join the academic afterschool programme which comprises reflective learning, library time and homework assistance.

It’s critical that our members perform well at school, and aim to access either post-school studies, internships or work opportunities. Velokhaya has also expanded its academic offering through its partnerships with two ICT organisations. Eligible Velokhaya alumni can apply to the year-long programmes to equip them with skills to access ICT job opportunities.
